Rit dye has been around for many years. It is used to dye a range of fibers and materials from natural to synthetic. It is used to increase colour strength or change colour. It is also used for creating old school tie dyeing effects.
When instructions are followed correctly, RIT dye works very well. It is recommended to go to the official RIT website. The RIT website also recommends using a colourstay fixative to reduce colour bleeding.
All Purpose RIT Dye that works of natural fibres along with rayon and Nylon.
Dyemore RIT Dye that works on Synthetic fibres
ProLine Dye that is RITs “professional” line of dye that is mainly used for bulk dyeing.
Colour Remover which stripes items of their colour before then redying with either an all purpose dye, dyemore dye or ProLine dye.
Colorstay Fixative which helps locks in colour and reduce bleeding. This process is recommended to be done after dyeing predominantly natural fibres.
RIT dye does not work on Metallic fabrics, water repellent fabrics or Polyester thread. Be aware when dyething items with noticeable threads as the polyester dye will not change colour.
Both Liquid and Powder both work well. They have their benefits . Liquid Dye is more convenient whereas the powder can actual create a stronger colour and is smaller in packaging size.
There are other options for fabric dyeing that are considered ‘better quality’. Procion MX, Jacquard Acid Dyes,Jaquard Idye and Dylon are all excellent alternatives to RIT.
